In 2015, the Danish <\/span>MedTech<\/span> start-up<\/span> EYE-GO<\/span> A\/<\/span>S<\/span> decided<\/span> to improve conditions for people suffering from severe and chronic eye diseases such as glaucoma, dry eyes and allergies. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

In the eye-drop market, products are mainly impractical and difficult for individual users to use. Every day, they face challenges<\/span>,<\/span> both <\/span>when <\/span>they need to dose the correct amount of liquid into the eye and aim correctly<\/span>. <\/span>This is a <\/span>major <\/span>problem for people suffering from serious eye diseases, <\/span>because in this case <\/span>it<\/span> is particularly<\/span> important to dose <\/span>correctly<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n

Improved conditions for eye patients<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n

That<\/span> is now <\/span>a thing of the past. <\/span>Just <\/span>under <\/span>three<\/span> years ago, EYE-GO, in collaboration with <\/span>the manufacturing company<\/span> Carmo<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> developed a <\/span>disruptive<\/span> technology that <\/span>injects the liquid into the eye <\/span>instead of <\/span>dosing with d<\/span>rops<\/span>. Existing products on the market dose the amount depending on how hard, how long and where<\/span> the user presses<\/span> the dispenser.<\/span><\/p>\n

W<\/span>a<\/span>th EYE-<\/span>GO<\/span>\u2019<\/span> s new <\/span>device<\/span> the user <\/span>does<\/span> not need to worry <\/span>about <\/span>whether<\/span> dosing is correct, as <\/span>it<\/span> simply turn <\/span>the <\/span>device<\/span>, <\/span>which<\/span> then<\/span> ensures that the correct amount is<\/span> injected<\/span> safely and accurately<\/span> into the eye.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n

EYE-GO says:<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n

Product: <\/span><\/b>With the combination <\/span>of the technologies<\/span> EYE-GO has reduced the number<\/span>of<\/span> components in <\/span>their<\/span> device<\/span>, <\/span>so that it no longer consists <\/span>of 50 components<\/span>, but instead 30. This<\/span> reduces <\/span>both the associated <\/span>costs and <\/span>makes it simpler to manufacture <\/span>device<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>The functional proto<\/span>t<\/span>ype is not yet finished, but <\/span>EYE-GO is <\/span>70% of the way there<\/span> with it<\/span>. Some parts still need to be produced, and the welding processes must be examined more closely.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Time: <\/span><\/b>W<\/span>he<\/span> method has <\/span>been decisive and <\/span>made it possible for EYE-GO to reach the finish line faster<\/span> with the pr<\/span>ototype<\/span>, <\/span>which<\/span> is due to be completed by March 202<\/span>1<\/span>. <\/span>After that<\/span> the<\/span> prototype must be verified, including <\/span>in relation to<\/span> sterility<\/span> \u2013<\/span> and this clinical test period spans two years<\/span>, meaning the plan is<\/span> to enter the market no later than <\/span>in <\/span>March 2023.<\/span> <\/span>The reduce<\/span>d<\/span> time has been extremely important for E<\/span>YE-GO<\/span>, as the prototype <\/span>must be presented <\/span>to <\/span>a number of investors<\/span> in March.<\/span><\/p>\n

Financials: <\/span><\/b>EYE-GO has saved approximately <\/span>one<\/span> mi<\/span>llion<\/span> DKK<\/span><\/span> by identifying the method. <\/span>However, the savings may be smaller in the long term, as a great deal of time has been invested in gaining knowledge about the method\u2019s scope, possibilities and limitation<\/span>s, which were not known prior to the project.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Sustainability: <\/span><\/b>So<\/span>me<\/span> of <\/span>the device\u2019s<\/span> materials are <\/span>sustainable, which is why <\/span>it<\/span> has the potential to<\/span> make an impact <\/span>on the sustainability front. <\/span>However, there are limits to how sustainable EYE-GO can make its <\/span>device<\/span>, <\/span>as <\/span>it<\/span>me<\/span> is single-use. Here, EYE-GO has chosen to ensure <\/span>the device\u2019s<\/span> function and sterility, so that it makes the best possible <\/span>sense <\/span>for users.<\/span> <\/span>EYE-GO <\/span>is, however, considering <\/span>working with a circular economy<\/span>,<\/span> where users return <\/span>the device<\/span> after use<\/span>, but it is still unclear whether this <\/span>can become <\/span>a reality.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n
