15:05-15:30 HOW AM CAN BATTLE THE CORONA CRISIS 

John Wilczynski, Executive Director, America Makes. 

John will explain how AM turned out to be an important weapon during the corona crisis. Millions of 3D printed items were printed and shipped to the front line in American hospitals. Hear how America Makes managed to create a completely new process for approval of 3D printed parts and components and how they created a digital platform that connected demand from the hospital side with the supply side from skilled American AM experts 

America Makes is a public-private partnership with member organizations from industry, academia, government, non-government agencies, and workforce and economic development resources. They are working together to innovate and accelerate AM and 3DP to increase our nation’s global manufacturing competitiveness. 

15:30-15:55 HOW AM CAN BATTLE THE CLIMATE CRISIS 

Sherry Handel, Executive Director, Additive Manufacturer Green Trade Association (AMGTA) 

The AMGTA is a new global trade group created to promote the environmental benefits of additive manufacturing (AM). The AMGTA seeks to educate its members, industry, and the public about these positive environmental benefits of AM and promote the adoption of AM as an alternative to traditional manufacturing. Sherry will present her overall thoughts on advancing environmental sustainability in Additive Manufacturing and will share key takeaways from the organization’s recently published report, the State of Knowledge on the Impacts of Metal Additive Manufacturing. Learn about the importance of rigorous, independent, and ongoing research focused on sustainability in AM and the AMGTA’s upcoming life-cycle assessment (LCA) projects.
