FAQ – CO2 calculator(beta)
AM is short for additive manufacturing and is the process of 3D-printing with one of the many materials and technologies available.
CM is short for conventional manufacturing and covers processes like milling and moulding in conventional materials
Ecoinvent is a trusted global database for environmental data. the CO2e calculator uses standard data from ecoinvent particularly for conventional manufacturing processes and materials, but also also a base for the materials used in additive manufacturing where possible.
For conventional manufacturing we largely pull from ecoinvent databased for the global warming potential (GWP) of specific manufacturing processes and specific material. This means there is less information to add in. For additive manufacturing the global datasets are still lacking, hence more first hand information needs to be added regarding the emission of the printing.
