A façade inspired by knitting
Through a creative interplay between 3D-printed ceramic tiles and an innovative design, Studio RAP has united tradition and modern technology, drawing inspiration from knitting and the city’s proud tradition of ceramic craftsmanship.
The building’s façade consists of 225 unique tiles, which are 3D-printed in ceramic and shaped to mimic flowing textiles. The tiles are fired at high temperatures to ensure high durability and resistance to the elements.
The tiles are produced using a clay-based 3D-printing process, with each tile taking approximately two hours to manufacture.
The undulating, textile-like surface is created through precise control of layer build-up during the printing process. The result is a three-dimensional structure that gives the façade a distinctive visual depth while also integrating seamlessly with traditional construction methods.
