ECOALF STORE

Plastic waste becomes sustainable design

Plastic waste becomes sustainable design

A net-zero and zero-waste store in Madrid is the result of a collaboration between Ecoalf and Nagami. The store’s interior-including walls, shelves, and display tables-is made from a total of 3.3 tonnes of 100% recycled plastic. The elements are 3D-printed with an aesthetic reminiscent of melting glaciers to draw attention to climate change.

Using recycled plastic in the store’s construction not only keeps waste out of landfill, but also demonstrates the potential of 3D printing as a technology for sustainable design. By using locally collected materials from Spain and producing the components locally, the project also reduces CO₂ emissions from both transport and production.

The project serves as an example of how the environmental impact of retail design can be reduced, and shows that recycled materials can be successfully integrated into commercial interiors.
