House 3D-printed with local soil

TECLA is a fully 3D-printed home that combines traditional construction techniques with natural, locally available materials.

The home was designed by Mario Cucinella Architects (MCA) and developed in collaboration with WASP. It is built from recyclable materials based on local soil, making the construction CO₂-neutral and easy to adapt to different climates.

The distinctive double-dome design integrates the load-bearing structure, the roof, and the building envelope into a single solution, contributing to an efficient and resource-saving construction.

The building was constructed using two synchronised 3D printers, which, through automated control protocols, optimised both movements and the efficiency of the construction process.

The soil mixture was adapted to local climatic conditions, while solar analyses and computational design tools were used to optimise the building’s thermal properties and energy efficiency (Chadha et al., 2024).
