Europe’s largest 3D-printed building
Wave House Data Centre in Heidelberg, Germany, is Europe’s largest 3D-printed building and marks an important milestone in innovative construction.
The project was developed by PERI 3D Construction and HeidelbergCement and was built using COBOD’s BOD2 3D construction printer.
A key design challenge was solved by the architecture firms SSV and Mense Korte, which integrated a distinctive wave-shaped design into the building’s walls. The complex, undulating wall forms would not have been possible to realise using traditional construction methods, and therefore 3D printing was chosen due to the technology’s extensive design freedom.
The building demonstrates the potential of 3D printing to create complex and energy-efficient structures and shows how the technology can form the basis for scalable solutions for the data centres of the future.
